Put that theory into action!

We often get excited about starting something new. We have something to focus our attention on, a method to try, and a way to move toward the life we want to live. But when it comes time to do it, enthusiasm wanes, life continues to happen, and we don't prioritize ourselves.

You can only get the life you want when you create time and space for yourself in it.

There is a big difference between knowing what to do and actually doing it. I can't tell you how many clients I have had who come to me after reading every single self-help book out there. They have a lot of information,! but they are totally frustrated because they've never implemented any of it and have no idea where to start.

Don't get me wrong, knowledge is power! Read every book you want to read! But unless you put that knowledge into action, it's not going to get you where you want to go.

As Ralph Waldo Emerson says, "An ounce of action is worth a ton of theory."

So why do we spend more time reading and studying the thing we want to do than actually doing the thing? Because we are scared that we will fail. Maybe we have worked on this thing repeatedly and have never had success, and the thought of doing it again feels heavy. We don't want to face another failure. We think it means something about us or our character. It doesn't, it just means you haven't figured out how to make it work for you and your lifestyle yet.

We fear failure because we fear not being good enough. And how can we think we are good enough if we keep failing? Doubt creeps in and keeps you stuck where you are.

The key here is to change the way we talk to ourselves. Switch out the word failing for learning and see how different that feels. Instead of saying, I keep failing, try saying, I keep learning. It gives it a more positive spin which will help you be creative in your approach and see possibilities you couldn't see before. By learning what doesn't work for you, you are that much closer to figuring out what does.

You've probably heard it said a million and one times before, but the most successful people in the world have failed 99 times and were successful on the 100th time. It's a hard pill to swallow because it means we have to get really comfortable with failure. When we are comfortable with failure we won’t withdraw or feel bad about ourselves. Instead, we will investigate where things went wrong, learn from them, adapt, pivot, and try again.

Getting what you want out of life takes work. Decide what you want, get into action, and then keep going. Be consistent and be unrelentless about your priorities. You’ve got this, my friend!
