Homemade Sourdough Bread

bread.jpg

I made my fist load of sourdough bread! I have made bread before but I have never made it from a starter. Starters intimidated me. They require a lot of time and attention. Plus, I had tried making one before and it didn’t work out.

This loaf of bread was made from a starter that my wonderful friend @noragoodloe gifted me. I was so nervous to use it. It was really active when I got it but I knew I had to feed it before I used it. I must have texted Nora 20 times trying to make sure I didn’t mess it up.

The hardest part about making the bread is the amount of time it takes. I had planned on letting it proof all day and then baking it for dinner. It was really cold out the day I did it and it needed more time to proof. Even though I consider myself a really patient person I threw caution to the wind and put the bread in the oven before it had finished proofing. The result was still amazing! The taste was perfect but the bread was a little dense.

Ever notice how everything in life is a great learning lesson. Next time I will account for the cooler weather and allow myself plenty of time for the bread to proof. Patience is the key and that lesson wasn’t lost on me. I can’t wait to try it again!

The recipe I used can be found here. Good luck and let me know how it goes!
