A journey of rediscovery

I'm back from my trip to Italy and I don't know if I can even put into words how amazing it was! I love to travel and it used to be something we made a priority in our lives before Covid hit. Dave and I have felt it was important to see how other people live, experience other cultures, eat new foods, and see new sights. It helps us come away with a sense of gratitude for all that we have but also see where we want to make changes in our lives.

This trip did all that and more. It gave me a renewed sense of inspiration for life and reminded me of what's really important. I have so much that I want to share with you but if I'm completely honest, my mind is still reeling a bit from the experience and the jet lag. So, I'm going to give you a brief summary of what I walked away with and come back next week with more. πŸ˜‚

This trip was originally planned for May of 2020. Then Covid hit and like so many other people, we had to cancel it. Slowly as things began to reopen, we didn't replan the trip. For some reason, it seemed like there was never enough money or time. And while those things felt true when we said them, I'm not sure that was actually the case.

The truth is if something in your life is not a priority you won't make the time or space for it to be a possibility. This doesn't just apply to trips either. It applies to anything in your life that you want.

A great example from my own life is I used to tell myself I wanted to journal. I had been gifted several beautiful journals, some even with writing prompts in them to help me get started. But instead of writing in them, they just sat on my bedside table collecting dust. I told myself I didn't have time to journal, and that story felt very true. But the truth of the matter was, it wasn't a priority and so it was easy to find a million and one excuses that helped me justify that.

When Dave and I committed to our Italy trip, we suddenly found the time and money to make it happen. Nothing had changed in our lives other than the fact that we made the decision. We weren't making more money than before, and we also didn't have more time. Just by committing, we found ways to set aside a little extra money to pay for the trip and created space to take time off from work. Things magically started to fall into place after that.

This doesn't mean the entire process was easy. There were things that came up that made us question if we should be going. We had huge and unexpected financial issues come up about a month before we were supposed to leave. But the decision was made, things were already in action, and we were committed to doing this for ourselves because we know why travel is important to us. We also know that together, we can figure out just about anything.

Setting an intention, being clear on why this thing is important to you, and then following through with the steps needed to make it happen is how you get what you want out of life. When you do those things, when you get into action and head in the direction of what you want, things do start to line up for you.

If take inventory of your own life right now, are you making space for the things you say you want in your life?

If you are, that's awesome and I applaud you for doing what it takes to create the life you want.

If you aren't or you are finding yourself lost in the excuses of why it won't work maybe it's time to really investigate what's really important to you and why. We change over time and so does what we want out of life.

There will never be a perfect time for anything in life. Stop waiting for things to line up perfectly. Stop allowing yourself to get lost in excuses and start creating the life you want.
